Like many a small business owner, I appreciate the value of selective networking as a means of meeting new people and picking up useful business tips. This is a simple piece of advice I’m finding particularly helpful. If you’re often asked “How’s business?” only to automatically respond “Great, thanks” you could be missing opportunities.
While it’s important to present a positive face to the world – after all, no one wants to listen to a sob story – an answer such as, “Business is good thanks but I can always do with a few new clients” is more likely to encourage the person you’re conversing with to think which of their contacts may be interested in your services.
I’ve tested this new approach for myself and can report that it works!
